Blackboard Faculty Tools

Blackboard Faculty Tools (BFT) is a web-based utility integrated within Blackboard for use at NIU. Faculty can make a variety of requests using Blackboard Faculty Tools including:

  • Request a New Course in which student enrollment is automatically uploaded and refreshed daily.
  • Request a New Shell for course development long before a course is to be offered.
  • Remove a Shell to purge unwanted development courses.
  • Request/Manage a Master Course to combine enrollments from related courses into a single "master" course.

Note: All requests for courses and shells are processed immediately, so new courses and shells will instantly be available for you to build. You will receive an email notification to confirm that the request is complete. Any students registered for a course in MyNIU will be added to the course following the initial request. Any changes in enrollment after that will be processed twice a day, so it may take up a 24 hours for a student who adds or drops the course to be reflected in Blackboard. If you do not see your course or shell after receiving the confirmation email, or if a student who is registered in MyNIU is not enrolled in your Blackboard course after 24 hours, please contact the IT Service Desk at 815-753-8100 for assistance.
