The Java 2 Runtime Environment is required to use the Collaboration Tools. The plug-in may be downloaded from the page that appears when a user joins a Collaboration Session.
You can also download it from the Sun website at http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/index.html.
Blackboard recommends using version 1.5 of the Java 2 Runtime Environment, however, the Collaboration Tools will also work with version 1.4. Take care to uninstall any existing Java plug-ins before installing a new version.
At this time JRE 1.6 is not supported and users should un-install this version and install an older version.
Additionally, the Visual Text Box Editor in Blackboard 7.1 has two new tools which are Java based: WebEQ and MathML Scientific Notation Editors. They will not function correctly if JRE 1.6 is installed on the station. Users should make sure they have earlier versions of JRE installed if they want to use these tools.
