Entering Grades

Grades can be manually entered in Blackboard in several different ways. The number and assortment of grades to be entered will to a large extend determine what approach will be most efficient for the Faculty Member in Blackboard.
Adding Items
Blackboard uses the term "Item" to refer to a column within the Gradebook. Some items are added automatically by Blackboard when
certain assessments are deployed in the course. However, items may be manually added to post grades for assessments that are not
submitted electronically through Blackboard.
To add an item manually,
- Go to Control Panel and click Gradebook

- Click on Add Item

- Complete all the blanks provided, including the category description.
- If you do not wish this grade to be a part of the course total, select No for: Include item in gradebook score calculations.
- Submit.
- To add grades: click item title click Item Grade List and then click enter scores and click Submit.
Single Item/Single User
When entering just a single grade for a single user,
- Go to Control Panel and click Gradebook

- Click on the entry in the gradebook for a single student.

- Enter the grade for the student and then click Submit

- Confirm the grade change by clicking OK

Grades by Item (Item Grade List)
To enter grades for the same item for multiple students,
- Go to Control Panel and click Gradebook

- Click on the title of the item in the Gradebook that you wish to enter grades for

- Click on the first option in the list, Item Grade List

- Enter scores for desired students. *Note - Fields for grades are tab-delimited, so by clicking in the first row and entering a score,
pressing the tab key will move the cursor down to the next row. When finished, click Submit

- Confirm the grade change by clicking OK

Grades by User (User Grade List)
To enter multiple grades for a single student,
- Go to Control Panel and click Gradebook

- Click on the name of the student to enter grades for

- Click User Grade List

- Enter desired scores for the selected student. *Note - Fields for grades are tab-delimited, so by clicking in the first row and entering a score,
pressing the tab key will move the cursor down to the next row. When finished, click Submit

- Confirm the grade change by clicking OK
