If the entire class will be meeting to use the response pads at the same time, they will need to be all present on the same class roster within CPS. This means that only one 'large' course will be linked from Blackboard to CPSOnline. This is the class roster that will be imported. All that is necessary for the import is the CPSOnline Faculty Member Username/Password. So the faculty member that performs the class registration will need to be the one who imports the class (or shares the CPS Username/Password with the other faculty). After that single CPS database can be maintained. As long as all the grades are uploaded to the Blackboard Gradebook, it is fine to also have multiple copies of the database because all the grades will resolve to the same ending place online.
Yes, students can register clickers for multiple classes. Instructions on how students should register clickers through Blackboard can be found here: Student Registration Instructions.
Only the class registration enrollment code or "subscription" is purchased online. The hardware (pad) is purchased in the college bookstore. Alternatively, the enrollment code can sometimes be purchased in the local bookstore, but it often contains a markup.
Yes, two students can use the same clicker, but NOT IN THE SAME SEMESTER. ESPECIALLY if the pad is linked via Blackboard, no single pad can be used in the same term simultaneously by two different students. Even using strictly CPSOnline, no two students should be using a single pad simultaneously –- though it is physically possible.
Yes, they can.
Each time you would like a question in the same test to have a different time limit, you will need to go to Delivery Options and change the time setting.
If you uncheck 'Auto Show Charting' in the Delivery Options, the feedback chart with answers won’t pop up automatically after students answer the question. You can still call the Chart by clicking the Chart button in the Engage bar. Or you can call the Chart for a specific question after the test as long as you have not closed the Engage bar.
Yes, quizzes can be developed beforehand and stored in a CPS database.
Yes, you can store a CPS database on a network drive, but it is not recommended that you give tests when the database resides on the network drive because data may be lost. You can place a copy of the database on the workstation and then give the test.
Anyone with access to the machine that has CPS installed can open a CPS database. Any CPS database can be locked (password protected) or not locked. In order to import a Blackboard class roster that has been linked to CPSOnline the CPSOnline Faculty Member Username/Password must be used that registered the course. After the class is imported once, it can be re-synced by simply right-clicking and can then be transported from one database to another.
Yes, CPS pads come with batteries. The projected battery life is about a year. Each pad has a battery life indicator, so that when the indicator shows the batteries are low, students can replace them.
CPS pads can be purchased from the bookstore. The price of a pad is between $18-$20. Enrollments are purchased separately when students register their clickers online. Students can purchase one-term enrollment codes ($13 each) or a life-time enrollment code ($35). If they choose to purchase one-term enrollment at a time, they only pay for three semesters ($39 total); afterwards, they don’t need to pay anymore.
If a class has been successfully linked from Blackboard to CPSOnline, it is impossible for a student to enroll a pad in THAT class via CPSOnline. If a student obtains the class key for said Blackboard course from the faculty member and attempts to register at CPSOnline that student will be blocked and presented with a message that directs him/her to register via Blackboard. An account (and pad) can be enrolled in CPSOnline classes and/or Blackboard-CPSOnline classes simultaneously. If faculty members plan to use Blackboard-CPSOnline Connection to upload assessment data to Blackboard, they should register their classes through Blackboard. Students should register their clickers through Blackboard as well by going to that class -> Tools -> CPS.
Yes, they can. Faculty Members can click on Verbal and Chalkboard to create an on-the-fly question during a PowerPoint presentation.
Any engaged lesson, "on-the-fly" or otherwise, can be auto-uploaded upon completion of the assessment OR can be uploaded later from the stored 'Reports' section. If the assessment is recorded in the CPS Gradebook, then the scores can also be uploaded from there.
There is some minor formatting that has to take place and then the word document should be saved as an RTF file. The help file in CPS has specific instructions on this.
The CPS database is portable. Faculty can create exams, lessons and questions, quizzes wherever CPS is loaded. Faculty members typically transport the database on a memory stick.
Each pad has a unique serial # tied only to one student. A roster can be produced (printed) that is a list of first and last names and corresponding serial numbers. This list can be used to verify (via student ID card) that each student leaving the classroom has used his or her own pad. At that time the pads can be powered down – so that students can not leave the room with test answers stored on their pads.
