Using Web Folders

The Blackboard Content Collection Web Folders feature uses the WebDAV technology for sharing files. This technology allows access to the Content Collection files as if they were on a network drive. WebDAV is platform-independent and should work both on a PC or a Mac.

When you have the Web Folder open, you can then open and access files for either viewing or editing. When you open a file to edit with Microsoft Word, for example, pressing the "Save" button will save the file in the Web Folder location. You can also drag and drop files from the local computer onto the Web Folder and files will be stored in the Blackboard Content Collection.

Additionally, new folders or files can be created using the Web Folder feature. To create a new folder, simply right-click on the white space and select New -> Folder. Then assign a name to the new folder.

To access files using the Web Folder view use the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the folder in the Content Collection that you would like to open.
  2. Click on the Web Folder.

  5. To work with any of the files or folders, simply double-click to open them.

Note: Keep your file and folder names short. The total path of a file or folder should not exceed 400 characters. If you are going to have a lot of nested folders, it is especially important to keep the names short.
