Subscribing to Discussion Board

Faculty members can enable subscriptions to Forums or Threads. Allowing participants to subscribe to a Forum or Thread ensures that when updates have been made to the subscribed item, email notifications will be sent. This section outlines how to enable subscriptions as well as the process for subscribing.

  1. Click Communication on the Course Homepage.

  4. Click the Modify button for the Forum to be enhanced with subscribing.

  5. From the Forum Settings area, select the Allow members to subscribe to threads OR the Allow members to subscribe to Forum option.

    • Allow members to subscribe to threads - only allows subscriptions to certain threads within a Forum.

    • Allow members to subscribe to Forum - allows subscriptions to all threads within a Forum. If this option is used, additional selections must be made.
      • Include body of post in the email - use this option to include the message text in the email notification and a link to reply to the message.
      • Include link to post - use this option to include a link to the message in the email notification.

  6. To enable subscribing, click the Submit button.

  7. Once subscribing is enabled, click the Subscribe button to complete the subscription process.
    Note: Students will also have to subscribe on their own to receive the updates.

  8. Users will now receive email messages each time changes occur within the Forum or Thread.
