There are two separate parts to Collaboration: a basic Lightweight Chat, and the Virtual Classroom/Lecture Hall. Both provide opportunities for synchronous communication. The Virtual Classroom/Lecture Hall has all of the features of Lightweight Chat, but also include: group web navigation, links to content areas within the course, facilitation of small breakouts discussions and whiteboard functions. Both chat features depend on a Java applet. You may need to download a current Java application to ensure access to chat. Plan ahead; attempt to open and experiment with both chat features well in advance of using it in class.
